California begins accepting social equity grant applications from jurisdictions

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

California now will accept applications for grant money to boost city and county social equity programs, the state’s Bureau of Cannabis Control announced in a press release today. The application window runs from July 31 through August 30, 2019.

The grant money is available to cities and counties that allow cannabis businesses to operate within their boundaries, have established a social equity program and have identified a social equity applicant who could benefit from the financial assistant. More conditions for eligibility apply – view the guidelines here for more information about what jurisdictions should pursue a grant and how they can use the money.

The minimum grant is $100,000 unless a jurisdiction requests a smaller amount, and the state will follow a point system to distribute what remains of the $10 million appropriated to the program.

At Highroad we’re excited to see the state making good on its promise to help those disproportionately affected by cannabis prohibition get footing in the legal market.
