How does California Phase III cannabis testing affect my business?

California has strict testing regulations designed to keep consumers safe and your business out of trouble.

While there were initial fears that the new testing requirements that went into effect at the end of 2018 would create shortages on cannabis retail shelves, all seems to be okay on that front.

Of course, it also emerged that heavy metals appear to be a problem in some vape cartridges.

What does this mean for you?

According to the Bureau of Cannabis Control, “all cannabis harvested on or after December 31, 2018, and all cannabis products manufactured on or after December 31, 2018, are subject to phase three testing.”

This means that any remaining product you have that was harvested or manufactured on or before December 30, 2018 only needs to be tested for Phase I and Phase II testing requirements.

California added new testing requirements as of December 31, 2019.

Be aware that if you decide to order Phase III testing on these goods and fail, then you will have to either remediate according to the approved Corrective Action Plan or destroy the goods. Ensure you understand your testing requirements BEFORE ordering testing to avoid costly mistakes.
